Cupping

  • What is it?
    • Cupping is a Myotherapy technique that involves the use of vacuum cups to create suction and lift of the underlying tissues. With these we can directly impact the fascia. Fascia is connective tissue that is throughout the entire body, wrapping muscles, tendons and bones, providing support and protection to the body’s joints tissues and organs.
  • How does it work?
    • The use of cupping helps to break up adhesions that can occur in the fascia whilst improving blood flow and promoting healing.
  • When might a Myotherapist use it?
    • If you are feeling tightness rather than a soreness on movement it is usually an indication that it is the fascia restricting the movement rather than the muscle itself.
  • What to expect from this modality?
    • You may get circle, bruise-like marks from the cups but as there isn’t any tissue damage like there is with a bruise it shouldn’t hurt. In fact there are enzymes of collagen within the marks that actually aid with the healing process.
  • Benefits
    • Cupping helps to reduce muscle tightness that occurs when the adhesions in the fascia are impacting the muscle. This can then help to restore flexibility and mobility to the muscle.
