Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a complete medical system that encompasses acupuncture and other bodywork such as cupping, Gua Sha, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, diet and lifestyle recommendations. The origins of traditional Chinese medicine can be traced back at least 5,000 years, steadily growing throughout history, and continuing to blossom in both eastern and western cultures today.

Diagnosis in Chinese Medicine is through the identification of distinct patterns of imbalance that are unique to the individual, and considers the person’s overall physical and emotional state. This approach seeks to understand how symptoms are seen in relation to one another, in order to not just address the symptoms, but also their root cause.

As a complete system of medicine, Chinese medicine can be used to treat a variety of acute and chronic conditions, and either acupuncture or herbal medicine can be used as standalone or combined, depending on each individual case.

Meet our TCM practitioner’s

Dr Lea Zarnowski (TCM)

Qualifications

BHSc (TCM)

Lea is a nationally registered Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine Herbalist. She has a holistic approach to health and is interested in treating a variety of conditions, however she has special interests in women’s health such as infertility and gynecological issues, pain management, and digestive issues. “My number one objective with my patients is to have you feeling better, more informed and empowered about your health walking out of the treatment than when you walked in. Every symptom has a reason; it’s the body telling us what’s going on, and my job is firstly to decipher this, and then not only to bring the body back into balance but help you understand what’s led your body to be out of balance and therefore express the symptoms you’re experiencing.”

Some of the more common health concerns that acupuncture & Chinese herbs can address include:

  • Digestive issues
  • Gynecological conditions and infertility
  • Anxiety, insomnia and emotional imbalance
  • Acute and Chronic pain conditions
  • Headache & migraine
  • Pediatric health
  • Acne, eczema and psoriasis
  • Pre/post partum and pregnancy care
  • Hay fever and chronic upper respiratory issues
  • Urinary tract disorders
  • Autoimmune conditions

The conditions listed above are conditions seen frequently, but of course it is hard to list everything. If you do not see your particular health concern mentioned here, contact us to see if and how acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help.

Dr Sahar Shakaib (TCM)

Qualifications

BHSc (TCM)

I was introduced to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in my teens and almost instantly fascinated by its ability to not only resolve ailments which presented on a physical level, but its ability to make people feel happy and calm, healing them on a deeper level.

After completing my work experience at a TCM clinic and gaining a part time job as an assistant to the practitioner, I decided I wanted to study Chinese Medicine after I completed year 12.

Today, I continually strive for self-improvement in my field with the desire to serve the community as best I can.

I treat an array of conditions including:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Back pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Common colds and flus
  • PMS and symptoms of menopause

Being able to help people is truly one of my greatest joys, particularly when people have turned to TCM after “trying everything” without achieving the desired results. Having the ability to assist people attain the results that they were hoping for, which in turn leads to a much improved quality of daily life is something I am deeply grateful for.

I offer Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Cupping Therapy, Gua Sha and Moxibustion. All treatments are specifically prepared for each individual and altered according to the treatment plan.
