Soft tissue manipulation
Including trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage and myofascial release
- What is it?
- Trigger point therapy, massage and myofascial release are all forms of manual therapy which involve applying pressure to the soft tissue of the body such as muscles and/or fascia. Changes to the pressure, intensity as well as the direction effect the tissues in different ways to achieve different goals.
- Typical symptoms can include:
- Localised muscle pain with tenderness at the site
- Tightness or restricted movement
- Referred pain or discomfort
- When might a Myotherapist use it?
- Your Myotherapist will most likely incorporate most of these techniques into your treatment as and when you need them based off your presenting symptoms and what your practitioner feels would be of most benefit.
- What to expect from this modality?
- Trigger point therapy and most massage techniques require pressure so there maybe a level of discomfort. The goal is to help you feel better than you did before your treatment however depending on your symptoms and the techniques used you may feeling some post-treatment soreness. Any concerns or questions feel free to give your practitioner a call to discuss.
- Benefits:
- Generally you can expect to have a reduction of your presenting symptoms, increase in your range of movement or flexibility and general improvement in well-being.
